Andrew Bencze named new Girls Basketball Coach

St. Genevieve High School is excited to announce the hiring of Coach Andrew Bencze as new Head Coach of the St. Genevieve Girls Basketball program.

Coach Bencze is in his third year teaching history at Campbell Hall where he will continue to teach in the fall. Prior to teaching at Campbell Hall, he was at Providence High School for 30 years as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. He comes to St. Genevieve with a career record of 445-209 over 25 seasons of coaching girls basketball and will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom to the St. Genevieve program.

When asked what his favorite aspect of coaching is, Coach Bencze replied, “I love the team aspect of the sport—creating a group of athletes who sacrifice individual needs for the group and come together to pursue their goals. I also love to see my athletes improve, learning what it feels like when hard work pays off.”
Coach Bencze was attracted to St. Genevieve for several reasons. “St. Genevieve is a school that I’ve competed against in the past, and I’ve always felt like we share the same views on the importance of character in education based athletics. In addition, I’ve always felt at home in a Catholic school setting, where faith is an integral part of everything the school does.”

Athletic Director Marlon Archey says, “We are extremely excited about Andrew and the wealth of knowledge that he brings to our program. He is a true man of character that instills the values that our school community embraces.”
